Slow, but steady!

Friday, December 7, 2012 00:00  Ottsville Fire Companies call volume has slowed down quite a bit, but members are still continuing to train every week with duty crews completing truck checks, cleaning duties and keeping the station looking spotless.

Last Thursday (11-29-12) Engine 94 and Rescue 49 were called on the initial dispatch for a Dwelling fire in Upper Black Eddy's coverage area.  Engine 94 and Rescue 49 both hit the street in under 5 minutes with a total of 10 members, Engine 94 arrived first to find a 2 story dwelling with an extinguished porch fire with possible fire in the attic and light smoke showing.  Crews stretched an 1 3/4" attack line as a precaution, and found a heavy smoke condition in the attic with a few hot spots still on the porch.  After checking the area with a Thermal Imaging Camera, it was determined that there was no extension from the porch into the dwelling. Crews remained on location for approx 1 hour to ventilate the dwelling and wet down the porch.

Winter Safety

Monday, November 12, 2012  We've recently changed our clocks back, so we would like to remind everyone to change your smoke detector batteries! Practice smoke alarm maintence for a safe and effective way to prevent house fires.

'Tis the season for chimney cleaning! Fall is a good time to have your chimney cleaned and inspected. Although chimney's appear to be well insulated and safe, they can rapidly spread fire.

Remember, your fire department is here to help you! If you ever suspect danger call 911!
